Breaking News! (that's occasionally updated)
**FINAL TRANSMISSION**
the 28th of January 2016
To quote Richard Simmons, "Life is crazy." With this being said, we regret to inform you that after many years and 9 different members, the time has come for The Van Goghs to go the way of the dinosaur.
(You never know though, one day someone may stumble upon a mosquito trapped in amber with precious Van Goghs' blood preserved inside. ..They of course will need to use frog DNA to complete the sequence to bring us back to life, but at least there's hope.)
Thanks to everyone who supported us over the years by coming to our shows, purchasing our music or taking the time to say something nice. Thanks to our wives & girlfriends who put up with the late night schedules and heavy drinking.
.....aaaand a big, wet fart to those of you who confirmed 5+ times that they were coming to a show but never showed ;)
A couple members of The VG's have embarked on a new project with a new direction as of January 1st 2016.

Before you go into holiday hibernation you ought to come see us play with Cooled Out Babies and I lost Control at Debonair Social Club Friday November 20th. Here's a link to the event https://www.facebook.com/events/149277360483278 I lost Control has a new album being produced by none other than Dave Grohl. That's a rather nice album credit to have wouldn't you say? |
Come see us at Sunday August 2nd at 1:30pm for EdgeFest. It's going to be our last show for a few months as our bassist becomes a father!
Who knows how much of summer is left in these crazy climate days ? Catch us while you can.

Take it in the Teeth/Hello! (digital single) released today! Name your price and get a high quality download over at our bandcamp site. We recorded two new songs at Strobe Recording over a few days in June. We have some special guests on the album including Paul Foreman (of Chicago psych-rock band Soft Speaker) playing alto sax with the Burlap Sax Trio and a cover photo featuring incomparable rock poet, Thax Douglas. Coincidentally, we were the last lucky band Thax read for at the Empty Bottle before leaving Chicago; which is a shame, cause this scene cause could use some more of them good crazies. Thanks to James Frederick Wagner and John R Schramm for all their help engineering and mixing this recording; and to Carl Saff for fitting us into his busy mastering schedule. We hope you enjoy it. Please share it with your friends. If you happen to donate a couple bucks for the download, we'll be putting that towards funding our next recording. Our next show will be Edgefest on Sunday August 2nd. Full details soon. All the best! -The Van Goghs |

Please give their most recent work a listen HERE, you shan't be disappointed. The fantastic Secret Colours is headling and Bad Bad Meow is kicking off the evening. We'll be going on at 9pm to rock your educational socks. Get your tickets now http://www.martyrslive.com/thu-may-21-8pm-12adv15door Help a kid, feel good, it's Martyrs for crying out loud. They don't put on bad shows. Thanks to Moxie Rock & Supplies for Dreams for putting this all together! See you there....unless you're heartless. |
TIme to go to our home away from home. Where less traffic congestion, Lakefront Brewery, music and better cheddar are all spun in a super-collider. Yep, we're heading to Milwaukee, the MKE kids, Friday April 17th, to play a show with The New Red Moons.
It's a house party venue, so we'll have to update this post with an address as soon as we have it.
After that, it's back to Chicago on Monday the 20th to shake the Double Door with The Ivorys. Come celebrate 4/20 with us at 8pm. Yea, that's early, but it's a Monday, so come on. There's still time to rsvp for $5 tickets at http://do312.com/doubledoorivorys

Thanks to everyone who came out for Bands For Bell '12. Was a good cause and a good time at Martyrs.
We're officially a friend of Alexander Graham Bell! ...the elementary school.

Come on and treat your seasonal affective disorder with us at a FREE show at Emporium Arcade Bar on Thursday 1/22/15.
Common Shiner (who just happen to share a manager with us) are headlining in support of their new album Before They Sold Out: part 2.
Natalie Grace Alford use of her classically trained voice, loop pedals and tin cans sounds good to us. Freaks for Geeks is releasing a new EP; they mix alt rock and hip hop.
Yours truly will be going on at 9pm, for a quick half hour set. It's been a tough month for The Van Goghs with Nik getting 2nd degree burns on one hand, family emergencies and subsequent show cancellations along with a burst sprinkler line at our rehearsal space causing damage to our equipment.
So come on out and help us change our luck with some positive vibes, free music and video games.

Our next show is something a little different. We'll be playing December 28th at the 10th Annual Alex Chilton Birthday Bash at The Empty Bottle, along with a whole bunch of other local bands and musicians. It should make for a wild and unstructured evening (just as Alex would have liked it).
Click HERE to see all the event details. Hopefully we'll be able to knock off a few covers from Alex's solo career as well as from his time with Big Star. There may even be some burlesque dancing....you never know.... After that, stay tuned for upcoming details on our CHIRP Radio show January 12th at The Whistler. See y'all soon. |
Chicago's My My My will be celebrating the release of their 5th album at the Double Door on Friday November 21st. We'll be opening at 8pm, so come early.
The evening is packed with quality bands including The Ivorys, Molehill and The Central Standard. Use this little trick to treat your wallet right; RSVP on do312.com HERE for $5 cover charge! Otherwise, through Ticket Fly, it's $10 in advance or $12 at the door. We're looking forward to The Ivorys who are just coming off a recent tour and sounding sweet. Hope to see you there, we've got some new T-shirts and bottle openers for you to play with. |
Our next show at Cole's (10/25/14) is packed with friends of ours and best of all, it's FREE.
First, we have the amazing Warm Ones at 10pm, fresh off performing for a Combos commercial. Great melodies, we highly recommend you listen to them. We'll play at 11pm. Then it's our old dreamy, lo-fi pals the Pear Traps; back from a hiatus of sorts at 12am. Their singer Bryant also hand-crafts a hell of a guitar amp you should probably check out, Studious Amplifiers. Who knows, maybe The Van Goghs will be cool enough to own one some day. |
Next Show: 09/12/14, 10pm - The Throne Room with The Boxers and The Blissters. Click the above songkick link to get advance tickets, they're cheaper.
Show: The Van Goghs play a free concert at Orland Park's Centennial Park West Sunday August 31st. For more information click HERE
